Spring・Autumn

For Those Who Wish to See Natural Monuments and Endangered Species at Once

The most recommended seasons for birdwatching in Tokachi are spring (late March) and autumn (early November), when a remarkable variety of species can be observed in a short period of time.
During these seasons, visitors may encounter several birds designated as Natural Monuments of Japan, including the Red-crowned Crane, Greater White-fronted Goose, Middendorff’s Bean Goose, White-tailed Eagle, and Steller’s Sea Eagle, as well as endangered species such as the Snow Goose and the Cackling Goose.
The opportunity to observe both Snow Geese and Cackling Geese in the same season is a rare and truly rewarding experience, highly recommended for birdwatchers seeking exceptional biodiversity.

Summer

If You Want to Observe a Wide Variety of Summer Migratory Birds, — Visit Hokkaido!

From early May, many summer migratory birds arrive in Tokachi from Honshu for the breeding season, including species such as the Blue-and-white Flycatcher, Siberian Rubythroat, and Long-tailed Rosefinch.
Birds that are typically found only in alpine regions of Honshu can be observed much closer to human settlements here in Tokachi.
Guided walks are planned around the lively chorus of birdsong, allowing participants to search for birds in their vibrant breeding plumage while enjoying the fresh energy of Hokkaido’s early summer.
